A court has blocked the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) from awarding an emergency tender for security services at the country’s largest airports, saying there is no emergency justification for the tender.

“If a state-owned enterprise wants to issue a tender to deal with an emergency situation, there should at least be a semblance of an emergency situation,” ruled Judge Solly van Nieuwenhuizen of the High Court in Johannesburg.

This is the second time in six months that the state-run airport company has been interdicted from evaluating and awarding a tender for security services at airports such as OR Tambo, Cape Town, and King Shaka International.
