ActionSA Demands Answers Over Questionable R15 Million Tender in Matjhabeng

ActionSA is outraged by the recent revelations that Matjhabeng Municipality has awarded a solar panel tender worth R15 million to Mr. Mojalefa Buti, under circumstances that raise serious questions about transparency, governance, and accountability.

Matjhabeng remains one of the most financially distressed municipalities in the country — unable to pay service providers on time, failing to deliver basic services to residents, and drowning in debt. Yet, instead of addressing these urgent challenges, the Municipality has prioritised awarding multi-million-rand contracts without clear justification or proper oversight.

The awarding of this R15 million tender casts a dark shadow over Matjhabeng’s commitment to clean governance. ActionSA demands immediate answers:

– What procurement processes were followed in awarding this tender?

– Was the contract subjected to competitive bidding, and if so, who were the other bidders?

– Does Mr. Buti’s company have the proven capacity, experience, and track record to handle a project of this nature?

– How does the Municipality justify spending millions on this project while residents continue to suffer from water shortages, electricity outages, and collapsing infrastructure?

ActionSA will be writing to the Auditor-General, the Public Protector, and the MEC for COGTA in the Free State to demand a full investigation into this tender. We further demand that all tenders in Matjhabeng, and across the Free State, be immediately stopped and reviewed to ensure they comply with the principles of transparency, fairness, and accountability.

It must also be asked: where were councillors when this happened? Where were the MPACs that are mandated to exercise oversight? Where was the MEC for COGTA while these municipalities were being hollowed out? Oversight has failed dismally at every level, and those entrusted with protecting residents’ interests must be held accountable for their silence and complicity.

It is important to note that not a single municipality in the Free State managed to obtain a clean audit according to the Auditor-General. This is a damning indictment of the ANC’s governance and a clear reflection of systemic failure across the province.

The people of Matjhabeng deserve leaders committed to service delivery, not self-enrichment. The ANC is rotten from the head, and the South African government has completely collapsed under the weight of corruption and the absence of consequence management.

It is high time that South Africans stand together to hold the ANC, the African National Cartel, accountable. Those who have looted this country must be jailed, and the keys thrown into the ocean.

South Africa needs a new government altogether. The so-called Government of National Unity has failed dismally, serving only to glorify and legitimise ANC corruption. ActionSA will continue to fight corruption, maladministration, and poor governance, offering South Africans the clean and ethical leadership they deserve.
