The Gauteng North High Court found this week that the tender for a new machine to print âsecureâ cards, won by IDEMIA Identity and Security SA in August 2024, was âirregular, invalid, unlawful and unenforceableâ.
The Minister of Transport, Barbara Creecy, and Deputy Minister, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, have welcomed the High Court’s declaratory order that sets aside the appointment of IDEMIA as a preferred bidder for the driving license card machines tender.
As an interim measure the transport department has been allowed by the court to outsource the printing and issuing of driving licence cards to the home affairs department.
The High Court has declared the Department of Transport’s tender process for a new driver’s licence card machine printer was “irregular, invalid, unlawful and unenforceable.”
The North Gauteng High Court ruled that the appointment of Idemia as the preferred bidder was irregular, unlawful, and invalid following concerns raised by the Auditor-General.
