South Africa’s power utility Eskom has issued a tender to operate a 19.5MW solar PV plant to be established within the Sere Wind Farm.
The winning bidder will design, engineer, procure, construct and commission the 19.5MW solar PV plant to be located at the Sere Wind Farm in the Western Cape as well as enter into a two-year Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract.

The solar PV plant will be located within the Sere Wind Farm in the Matzikama Local Municipality, West Coast District Municipality in the Western Cape.

Job opportunities attendant to Eskom solar tender for communities in the vicinity of the Sere Wind Farm
Eskom requires the winning contractor to subcontract a minimum of 30% of the contract amount to South African companies, particularly those within Matzikama local Municipality areas.
The utility states that amongst the objectives of this project is the empowerment of communities in the vicinity of the local municipality through job creation, local procurement, skills development, enterprise and supplier development, subcontracting and corporate social investment initiatives, and B-BBEE compliance.
The contractor is also expected to subcontract a minimum of 30% of the contract amount to the designated group of suppliers. The list of designated groups is as follows:
- An EME or QSE, which is at least 51% owned by Black people.
- An EME or QSE, which is at least 51% owned by Black people who are youth,
- An EME or QSE, which is at least 51% owned by Black people who are women.
- An EME or QSE, which is at least 51% owned by Black people with disabilities.
- An EME or QSE, which is 51% owned by Black people living in rural or underdeveloped areas or townships.
Possible subcontracting opportunities include:
