Former University of Fort Hare (UFH) vice-chancellor Derrick Swartz will appear before the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) regarding its investigation into allegations of academic fraud.
President Cyril Ramaphosa signed a proclamation in August mandating the SIU to investigate allegations that Eastern Cape politicians and public servants were recruited by the university’s School of Government and Public Administration to study postgraduate degrees for an individual’s personal gain.
The SIU is probing claims of degree and tender fraud at UFH and Swartz will be questioned on his tenure as head of the prestigious university, where he was vice-chancellor and principal from 1999 until 2007. Swartz volunteered to speak to the SIU as part of its probe.
