Iconic TV host and former Carte Blanche co-anchor Derek Watts passed away following his battle with cancer on the morning of Tuesday 22 August.

1. DEREK WATTS PASSED AWAY ON TUESDAY MORNING
Derek Watts, who is well known for being the co-anchor on Carte Blanche passed away on the morning of Tuesday 22 August. This comes after his battle with cancer. Watts was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2022, which spread to lungs.
Earlier this year, he spent 14 days in ICU at Milpark Hospital.
2. ‘CARTE BLANCHE’ CO-ANCHOR FOR 27 YEARS
According to his Instagram account, Derek was a Carte Blanche co-anchor for 27 years, starting at the tender age of 16. The first episode of the series aired on 21 August 1988, starring the journalist, according to The Citizen.
3. HE LEAVES BEHIND HIS WIFE AND KIDS
Watts is survived by his wife Belinda and children, Tyrone and Kirstin.
4. DEREK WAS BORN IN ZIMBABWE
According to The Citizen, the journalist was born in Zimbabwe and later moved to South Africa to further his career in journalist in the 1970s.
5. HE WAS PASSIONATE ABOUT MOTORING JOURNALISM
According to his Instagram biography, Derek is a freelance motoring journalist.
“I have been writing about cars for about two decades. I love it, it is structured and makes me feel like I am in control,” he said to The Citizen.
